Joe's Story

I owned my first guitar at the age of five and received my earliest music training (on another instrument) from the age of six. However, when I first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964, I was almost fourteen, I knew that my life was permanently affected. Even though I eventually pursued a musical career in a different direction, classical guitar, I never stopped listening to and admiring the music of the Beatles.

Each of the Fab Four had their own unique impact and contribution. As I listened to their recordings I was particularly drawn to the guitar playing of George. His dialogue on guitar was intricately woven around their voices. His instrumental solos featured exquisitely chosen notes and utilized perfectly placed dissonances which added the right degree of tension and excitement. George's own compositions showed an individualism of expression that spoke of his sincere love of the guitar and willingness to explore new territories.

Discussing his music with my friend Louise Harrison, George's sister, we talked about making an offering to him of his beautiful music interpreted on the singular classical guitar. George truly admired the instrument which is capable of producing multiple voices at one time. With her encouragement I set about recreating his music in this new venue, but unfortunately ran out of time before he passed away. Although this project was meant for him as a personal gift, it is only fitting to share this labor of love with his fans to affectionately remember him by.

Thank you, George, for your inspiration, memorable music and gentle message of love for us all.
